Boy, 12, charged with negligent homicide

MARSHALL, TX Authorities initially described the death of William Lincoln, 12, as an accident Thursday, saying a loaded shotgun propped in a corner fell over and discharged. His friend was then charged Friday and sent to the Willoughby Juvenile Detention Center.

"Based on the facts we have, we believed it was in the best interest of the child to detain him," Harrison County District Attorney Joe Black told the Marshall News-Messenger.

The two 12-year-olds and a younger boy were alone in the house without adult supervision, Harrison County Sheriff Tom McCool said. Authorities seized several other loaded guns from the house.

A funeral for the boy was planned for Sunday.
