No bathrooms, air-conditioning downtown

HOUSTON Aside from no air condition, there are also now working bathrooms and no water at the Houston City Hall, city hall annex, the main library and other buildings downtown.

This all started at a construction zone a few blocks down the street from city hall. Contractors were working to build an underground tunnel along Bagby. They broke a couple of hundred-year-old lines, resulting in the buildings downtown being without water.

The library has closed. And because repair to the 24-inch line could take several days, the library could be closed throughout the weekend.

It's business as usual, though, at city hall, as much as possible. Some of the council staffers have been sent home because it's still pretty hot in there. But others remain, sweating it out. Portable restrooms were also brought in.
