Board approves plan for Sam Houston High

HOUSTON The state ordered the school closed because of years of poor performance. Under HISD's plan, the two new schools would consist of a Ninth Grade Academy and a high school focusing on math, science, and technology.

The plan will be submitted today to the Texas Commissioner of Education.

Yesterday, the school board also approved $10,000 bonuses for teachers next year, and new restrictions for students tattooed with gang-related symbols.

They voted to allow out-of-district students to attend school in HISD for free.
