Would-be thieves get away empty handed

HOUSTON It happened at a convenience store on East Mount Houston near the Eastex Freeway in Northeast Harris County. Police say whoever made the mess was successful at breaking into the store, but they say it was actually a failed attempt.

The manager says the would-be thieves backed up a stolen truck into the store to try to take an ATM. But they didn't get anything after the truck got stuck and one of the tires blew out. The vandals ran off empty handed.

"I've been hearing for this kind of thing, especially for an ATM machine or they try to take out, but it's not something new that makes me surprised. It's been happening everywhere," said store manager Sayeed Ali.

Investigators told the store manager that recently, there has been a rash of crimes like this where thieves have gone after the ATMs.

There were five security cameras at the location and the manager believes that at least one of the cameras captured the actual incident.
