Mayor unveils solar panels at City Hall

HOUSTON There was a thumbs up as the 12,000 kilowatt solar arrays were shown off. This change in energy is part of Solar America City Partnership. The goal is to make solar power mainstream by 2015. Mayor White says Houston is a great place to get solar energy.

"We're lucky in the Houston area," he said. "We have good solar insulation characteristics, which is a fancy way of saying the sun shines hot and we can produce electricity out of that."

The solar arrays won't provide all the energy needed for the building, but Mayor White says they will produce enough for a good sized home.
