Berkman earns NL player of month honors

Astros first baseman Lance Berkman has been named the National League Player of the Month for May.Berkman hit .471 (49 for 104) with nine home runs, 22 RBIs and 31 runs scored in May. He led the majors in batting average, hits, total bases (85) and on-base percentage (.553).

This marks the second time in Berkman's career that he has earned NL monthly honors (won previously in May 2004).

Other players receiving votes were Dan Uggla of the Florida Marlins, Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers, Adam Dunn of the Cincinnati Reds, Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves, Ryan Ludwick and Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals, and Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago Cubs.
