Dragging death victim to be remembered

James Byrd, the victim of a gruesome hate crime that shocked the nation, is being remembered in Houston today.Saturday will mark the tenth anniversary of when three white men in Jasper wrapped a chain around Byrd and dragged him with a pickup truck. Two of the men were sentenced to death. The third received life. The case also led Texas to pass a hate crime law.

The Center for Healing Racism and the Byrd Foundation for Racial Healing will hold a tribute today at the Cullen Oaks Community Center on Cullen. It gets underway at 7pm.

Byrd's family will also be in attendance.
