Woman shot, man killed in SE Houston

HOUSTON Police say the wild night on the southeast side started around 4am at Almeda-Genoa near Rowlett where a woman was carjacked. The suspect then went to an apartment complex on Broadway and Bellfort, where he shot and killed 25-year-old John Edmonds.

Police believe they've arrested the man responsible.

"My son was too friendly, too friendly," said Mary Edmonds, the victim's mother. "That's all I know."

Edmonds was shot in a walkway the apartment complex.

"We heard screaming and shots, 'Bang, bang, bang' and everyone was screaming," said apartment resident Jorge Castorna. "The shooter took off that way in a car."

It's a car police say was stolen.

"The vehicle is possibly related to another armed robbery that happened earlier in the morning on the southeast side of Houston," said Chris Sturdivant with the Houston Police Department.

The suspect then led police on a short chase. He tossed a gun out, which they recovered . He then crashed the car and was arrested.

Investigators aren't sure why the suspect came to the apartment complex or what sort of relationship he may or may not have had with Edmonds. Those who know the victim think he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

As far as the woman who was carjacked, we are told she is in serious condition.
