Barkley says he'll pay large gambling debt

LAS VEGAS, NV Clark County District Attorney David Roger said today that prosecutors would file a criminal complaint if the former NBA star did not pay the debt cited by the Wynn Las Vegas resort.

The casino alleges in a civil complaint filed yesterday in a Nevada state court that Barkley failed to repay four $100,000 casino markers received last October.

In a radio interview with sports station WJOX in Birmingham, Ala., Barkley repeatedly blamed himself for letting the debt lapse.

He says it stems from a wager on the 2008 Super Bowl and did not explain why Wynn alleges the loans were made in October.

Barkley, currently a basketball analyst for Turner Network Television, denies any personal financial problems, and says all the casino had to do was call him before filing the complaint.
