Suspect turns himself in following chase

HOUSTON According to the Harris County Sheriff's department, the chase began as a traffic stop in northwest Harris County at about 4:10pm. The suspect refused to pull over on a side street. He headed onto Beltway 8 and ultimately ended up going northbound on the Hardy Tollway.

The chase ended about 10 minutes later when the suspect's vehicle crashed on the tollway just north of FM 1960. The suspect, who was alone in the car, fled on foot into a residential neighborhood.

Police searched for the man, in some cases going door to door. The suspect's girlfriend apparently convinced him over the phone to turn himself in. He was taken into custody shortly before 5pm.

There was a brief traffic backup on the tollway until the suspect's car was towed away.
