Attorney: KC cops in miscarriage case to be fired

An attorney whose firm represents two Kansas City, Mo., police officers says the pair will be fired after they failed to get medical treatment for a pregnant suspect. Luke Harkins says the Board of Police Commissioners decided to fire Officers Melody Spencer and Kevin Schnell.

"The officers stopped Sofia Salva in February 2006 for having a fake temporary car tag. During the stop, Salva repeatedly asked for medical help, but the officers ignored her pleas. They arrested her and she later miscarried.

" Harkins says he is disappointed but not surprised by the decisions he received Friday. He says it's unclear whether the officers will appeal.

" A Kansas City police spokesman said he could not comment. Salva is suing the police department and the officers.
