Dallas D.A. calls for justice

DALLAS, TX DNA testing has exonerated 18 wrongfully imprisoned Dallas County men since 2001. In one case, a prosecutor hid evidence that a murder victim was last seen with two men other than the one who was sent to prison for the crime. Dallas County D.A. Craig Watkins says prosecutors who knowingly sent innocent people to prison should face criminal charges.

"When we see acts when individuals intend to cause a person to be convicted for a crime they did not commit, that's an embarrassment for our profession," Watkins said.

Robert Rogers, a former Dallas prosecutor, commented.

"Who would want to be a prosecutor knowing that if they made a mistake, then that people are going to be clamoring for them to go to jail?"

Many Dallas County prosecutors who sent innocent people to prison now work in private practices.
