Officers find pickup full of pot

BAYTOWN, TX Around 9:30am Sunday, two Baytown police officers – Officer David Holland and Officer Jeremy Tharp -- were working traffic enforcement on Interstate 10 near Sjolander Road. The officers noticed a white 2002 Chevy pickup with Louisiana license plates parked on the side of the road in the 7300 block of I-10.

They stopped to check on anyone who might be inside the vehicle. There was no one inside or anywhere around the vehicle. The officers then noticed a heavy very distinct odor -- fresh marijuana.

They looked in the back and spotted numerous bundles of marijuana completely filling the truck bed. They also saw bundles in the extended cab portion of the truck.

The truck was towed to the Baytown Police Department. Forty-six bundles of marijuana were removed by Baytown officers. Most of the bundles of marijuana weighed 25 pounds. The total weight was close to 1,200 pounds with a street value of over $300,000.

The incident is currently under Investigation by the Baytown Police Special Operations and Narcotics Division.
