UH softball sweeps two from UTEP

HOUSTON With the two wins, the Cougars tied a program record for conference wins, matching Houston's 2007 win total.

Wagner hit the three-run home run on the first pitch in the first inning, giving her a total of 17 for the season. She has now tied for the single season record home runs with Kristen Glowacz, who had 17 during the 2005 season.

Houston added two runs in the sixth inning. Freshman Baillie Lott scored on a walk by freshman Jennifer Klinkert with the bases loaded and junior Katie Bush scored the final run of the game after Wagner was hit by a pitch.

In her final regular season game at Cougar Softball Stadium, senior Angel Shamblin moved to 29-2 in the circle. She had 12 strikeouts for her second straight double-digit strikeout game and her fourth in the last five.

Shamblin, Amanda Grote, Barbie Love and Courtney Spittler were honored prior to the start of the second game as part of the senior day festivities.

In the second game, Love (11-3) struck out 11 in a 1-0 victory.

UH scored the lone run of the game in the sixth after junior Haley Valis hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Klinkert, who reached base on a single down the left field line.

The Cougars finish the regular season Sunday against UTEP at 1pm. Then, Houston will play host to the Conference USA tournament starting Thursday at 9am.
