UH softball sweeps two at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, AL The ninth-ranked Cougars (43-7, 17-2 Conference USA) now hold a 17-6 lead in the all-time series against the Blazers.

UH won the first game, 4-0, behind a two-run home run from junior Laurie Wagner in the fourth inning. Senior pitcher Angel Shamblin (26-2) allowed two hits, no runs, no walks and nine strikeouts.

The Cougars took the second game 8-3 despite falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Barbie Love (10-2) pitched the complete game, allowing four hits, three runs, three walks and nine strikeouts.

Houston will wrap up the series on Sunday with a single game slated to begin at 1pm. Fans can follow the game using the Gametracker link on the softball schedule page at www.UHCougars.com.

Following the series at UAB, Houston will return home for a doubleheader against Louisiana-Lafayette on April 30. Houston will hold a ceremony to present the 2007 C-USA Championship team with their rings following the second game.

UH will close out conference play with a series against UTEP on May 3-4. The four seniors, including Angel Shamblin, Barbie Love, Amanda Grote and Courtney Spittler, will be honored in between the May 3 doubleheader.
