Drowning is one of the leading causes of death for children under 14. Most of those children were only out of an adult's sight for a few minutes.
"It does only take a moment for this kind of stuff to happen, because kids are quick," said Gidget Swift with the American Red Cross.
The Centers for Disease Control suggests parents install four foot high fencing with self latching gates around pools. Also get the toys out of the water so children won't be tempted to reach for them.
