UH softball splits doubleheader vs. Baylor

TULSA, OK Junior Haley Valis hit a leadoff home run in the third inning to put Houston on the board in Game 1. The home run down the left field line was her seventh this season.

Behind 2-1, Houston seized the lead in the fourth when junior Christa Raley hit a two-run home run to left field. She scored Haley Valis, who had reached base on a single.

Houston put up two more runs in the fifth inning. In the sixth, Houston loaded the bases and senior Amanda Grote hit a three-run double.

Houston registered 12 hits in the game, their 18th double-digit hit game this season.

UH senior Angel Shamblin (23-2) allowed two hits, two runs, one walk and seven strikeouts in six innings of work.

In the second game of the double-header, Houston fell to the Golden Hurricane, 1-0 for just their second loss in Conference USA despite outhitting Tulsa 6-3.

Tulsa's single run came in the fourth inning after Sara Dyer reached base on a walk. After moving around the bases, she scored on a wild pitch.

Senior Barbie Love (9-2) went the distance in the loss. She allowed three hits, one run, three walks and struck out three.

Houston is now 39-7 overall this season and 14-2 in Conference USA play. The Coogs are now 5-4 in the all-time series against the Golden Hurricane.
