Store clerk shot, killed during robbery

HOUSTON It happened around 12:30am at the Valero on West Gulf Bank near Veterans Memorial. Authorities say two men walked up to the store and opened fire, killing the clerk and then taking the cash register.

"They shot through the window and we believe so far that those are probably the rounds that struck the complainant and then they shot the door to force themselves in," said Det. J. Rubio with the Houston Police Department.

Police have taken three men into custody. One of them is a juvenile and they say he is one of the two suspects involved in this case after he was spotted on the surveillance video.

Authorities say they tracked him down at an apartment complex across the street where witnesses say he ran towards. The other suspect remains at large.

Two men who were found with the juvenile suspect were also taken into custody to determine any possible involvement in this incident.

Investigators told Eyewitness News that they have pulled video surveillance from the scene of the crime. There were at least two witnesses to the aggravated robbery that has now turned into a murder investigation.

Detectives say they have recovered a handgun at the apartment complex and they are trying to connect it to the shooting.

Authorities have not released any information on the victim.
