FAA spokesman Laura Brown said Monday that Stuckey was reassigned to "an administrative position that doesn't have safety oversight."
Stuckey's regional office was criticized last week at a congressional hearing into the FAA oversight of airline safety.
One inspector testified that Stuckey dismissed complaints that a safety supervisor was too lax in dealing with Southwest Airlines.
The FAA recently hit Southwest Airlines with a $10.2 million civil penalty for flying planes that had missed safety inspections.
