Witness helps track down robbery suspect

HOUSTON Police received a robbery call at the Laredo National Bank on Spencer near Allen Genoa Monday morning. The robber held up the bank at gunpoint and took off with the money. A motorcycle officer was approaching the scene when the witness flagged him down.

South Houston Police Department Chief Herbert Gilbert said, "The citizen stated that they believed the suspect hopped a yellow cab. So the officer saw the yellow cab, turned it around, and got it stopped."

The suspect got out and ran into the woods. He was arrested when a K-9 unit found him in a nearby apartment.

Police say the robber had an accomplice who called the cab ahead of time and directed it to the bank.
