Astros bounce back, dump Tigers

HOUSTON "That's what you can pretty much expect to see from this team," said Houston's Hunter Pence, who hit his fifth home run of the spring in the third inning. "I think we're going to have one of the better lineups in the National League. We're going to get after it from the top of the lineup to the bottom."

Shawn Chacon pitched five innings for Houston, allowing three runs and five hits. He struck out one, walked two and said he felt ready for the season.

"You want to stay hungry all the time," Chacon said. "I wanted to see results in my last game before the regular season and today was pretty good."

Nate Robertson went five innings for Detroit and gave up four runs and six hits.

"In the fourth inning, I got behind a couple of times and it cost me," Robertson said. "I absolutely felt good all spring. It's one of the best springs I've had. I felt strong the whole time.

"The good thing is coming out healthy and feeling good about my mechanics. What matters is ahead. None of this in the past counts," he added.

Brandon Inge doubled to drive in Miguel Cabrera in the second inning for a 1-0 Tigers lead.

Wigginton's grounder knocked in Miguel Tejada with Houston's first run in the second inning.

Carlos Guillen hit his seventh homer of the spring in the third inning and Jacque Jones his first in the fourth to give Detroit a 3-2 lead.

"They got those two solo home runs on me," Chacon said. "I'll take solo homers any time."

RBI doubles by Carlos Lee and Jose Cruz Jr. in the fourth put Houston back on top 4-3.

Lee doubled in one run and Tejada drove in another with a single to set up Wigginton's shot in the sixth.

"We think we're in pretty good shape going into the season," Astros manager Cecil Cooper said. "And our pitching is going to be better than people think. We think we're good enough to get it done."

Mike Hessman's single drove in Ramon Santiago for the Tigers' final run.

"I think our guys are ready to play, I really do," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. "I'm sure all the teams are at this time of the year. We have to make some adjustments, obviously, but I'm very pleased and ready to go."
