Facebook takes steps to be safer

HARTFORD, CT Attorneys-general from several states say Facebook, the second-biggest of those sites in the world, is adding more than 40 new safeguards. They're aimed at protecting young users from sexual predators and from cyberbullies.

Convicted sex offenders will be banned from the site. And older users will be limited in their ability to search online for subscribers under 18.

Texas is the only state that hasn't endorsed this agreement or a similar one reached in January with MySpace. Texas officials have said they want faster action on verifying the ages and identities of users.
