Wi-Fi coming to parts of Houston

A new program to bring wireless Internet to Houston's poorer neighborhoods was launched by Mayor White Monday. The city set up its first wireless empowered community access network in the Gulfton area. The project provides low-income residents with Internet access.

The city hopes to open nine more Wi-Fi networks around Houston.

The program will be paid for using money Earthlink paid after defaulting on a citywide wireless network contract.
