A three alarm apartment fire in northwest Houston has left several families homeless. The apartments on De Soto caught fire Saturday evening. The flames quickly spread. Fortunately, residents were able to get out in time.

The roof of the building collapsed and nearly hit two firefighters.

"Two crews that did become trapped," said Omero Longoria of the Houston Fire Department. "They were separated from their exits when the roof collapsed."

Firefighters called for reinforcements who eventually helped the trapped firefighters escape the building. No one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
