Texas jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Texas Tech (10-9, 3-1) got on the board with a two-run homer by Monk Kreder and a one-run single by Chris Hall.
But Texas used a six-run third inning to put the game away. The Longhorns added four runs in the sixth, three in the eighth and five in the ninth.
Brandon Workman (3-1) struck out six and gave up one run on three hits in 5 1/3 innings. Nathan Karns (1-3) took the loss, giving up eight runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings.
