Houston police are adding extra patrols to a southeast Houston neighborhood where a teenager was shot and killed last week.Residents in the community around North Super and Canal streets say the area has been a hot spot for gang activity.

Kevin Alfred, 16, was murdered there last Wednesday. Police are looking for the main suspect in the killing, Juan Gonzales, Jr., 28. They say he was a rival gang member.

A senior citizen was recently beaten and robbed by two men in the same neighborhood. Members of HPD's Crime Reduction Unit are now canvassing the area and neighbors are taking notice.

"Every street we have a cop, that's better. It's good because we have a lot of kids that play right here on the bikes," said resident Caroline Vargas.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Juan Gonzales, Jr., you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
