Area Pitch, Hit & Run contest in Missouri City

MISSOURI CITY, TX The event is open to all youth aged 7 to 14. The competition will be held on April 6 at 2 pm at Community Park, 1700 Glenn Lakes Blvd. One lucky boy or girl could win a trip to New York.

Three areas of expertise are being highlighted this year:

  • Pitching: Participants are tested by throwing strikes to a designated "Strike Zone" target.
  • Hitting: Participants hit balls off a stationary tee for distance and accuracy.
  • Running: Participants are timed, starting from second base, touching third and then running home.

All of the events are individually scored, then added together for a total point score.

"I'm really looking forward to the turnout. It is possible that a boy or girl from this area could make it to the finals. The finals will be held in New York at the 2008 MLB All Star Game," according to Kyle Frye, Recreation Specialist. "Of course, they have to keep advancing, but if they keep winning and their scores are high enough, it could happen."

Parents must bring a copy of the child's birth certificate to the event in order to be eligible to compete.
