UH softball sweeps Marshall in C-USA play

HUNTINGTON, WV No. 13 Houston (24-3, 2-0 C-USA) moves to 7-2 all-time against Marshall.

The 17 runs the Cougars scored in Game 1 are a season high. Their previous best was a 10-1 win over Army on Feb. 16. Houston also earned the Game 1 win against Marshall by scoring at least one run in each of the five innings. the last time they did was also during the win over Army.

Every batter in the Cougar line-up recorded a hit in the win.

The Cougars opened the first inning scoring seven runs on five hits. By the end of the third inning, UH upped the score to 12-0. Marshall finally got on the board in the fourth inning, scoring twice and no further.

Angel Shamblin pitched the complete game, moving to 13-1 this season. She allowed four hits, two runs, on walk and one strikeout.

In the second game, the Cougars continued their hot hitting in the 10-2 victory over Marshall. Houston scored all of its runs after two outs.

Barbie Love pitched a complete game, improving to 7-1 this season. She allowed two hits, two runs, two walks, and four strikeouts.

Houston will finish the series with a noon game against Marshall before heading to Blacksburg, Va., for a May 18 game against No. 24 Virginia Tech. The week-long road trip will conclude on March 19 in Columbus, Ohio, against No. 19 Ohio State. The Cougars will return home for a home series against C-USA foe Southern Miss on March 21-22.
