District wants to change start time of school

The Deer Park school district wants to push back the start time for its high school, but many parents think that's a bad idea. The district wants to change the start time from 7:25am to 9am, and end the day at 4pm instead of 2:25pm. The district says this is only meant to help the students.

"Having students come in before school now, come in after school now, it's harder for students to do those types of tutorials are not as well to attend as we think it would be if we had those tutorials from 8 to 9," said Matt Lucas with the Deer Park Independent School District.

"I think there's gonna be trouble," said concerned parent Linda Wortham. "I mean that leaves too much of a leeway for things to happen."

The school board is expected to vote on the proposal on April 21.
