Senator Whitmire calls Schatte one of his best friends and says he's been a lawyer for Schatte since 1981 on a range of issues.
Whitmire would not detail what the legal issues were.
"I'm not going to get into what I represented him on," said Whitmire.
Whitmire says his legal services for Schatte are all being reviewed and he's cooperating fully.
