Coast Guard saves one boater, two found dead

PORT ARTHUR, TX A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a call at 8:55 p.m. Sunday from a woman who reported that three men were missing. The woman stated that the men went out fishing in Sabine Lake at 2 p.m. Sunday and had not returned. The woman also reported that she believed the men were due back by sunset Sunday.

Coast Guard Air Station Houston launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew and Station Sabine Pass dispatched a rescue boat crew to search for the missing men. This morning, Bridge City and Port Arthur, Texas, Fire Departments joined the search in Sabine Lake.

At approximately 7:45 a.m. today a rescue boat crew located one man in Sabine Lake with a capsized boat and brought him to shore where EMS was waiting. He was reported to be in good condition.

At approximately 10 a.m. the Coast Guard recovered two bodies in Sabine Lake, four miles east of Port Arthur. The identity of the bodies is not known at this time. The incident is under investigation.
