Rutgers rally tops A&M in baseball

COLLEGE STATION, TX The sacrifice allowed Donny Callahan to score from third and give Rutgers a 9-8 lead. Jon Gossard's RBI groundout made the score 10-8. Jason Downey pitched 1 2/3 innings, striking out five batters to pick up his first save.

Rutgers (3-4) was trailing 5-3 when it scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-5 lead. Gossard provided a two-RBI single.

The Aggies (9-3) answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 8. Kyle Colligan and Caleb Shofner had run-scoring hits.

Reliever Matt Patterson (1-0) gave up no runs on two hits in an inning to earn his first win. He struck out one and walked one.

Kyle Thebeau (1-2) took the loss, giving up two unearned runs on one hit in two innings. Thebeau walked four and struck out one.

Gossard was 1-for-5 with three RBIs for the Scarlet Knights.

Jose Duran batted in three runs for Texas A&M.

Texas A&M outhit Rutgers 14-8. Each club had two errors.
