A man accused of leading a drug ring that reached from East Texas into Oklahoma, Alabama and Georgia was sentenced Tuesday to nearly 23 years in federal prison, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Jose Reyes Garcia, 32, pleaded guilty in November to conspiracy to distribute cocaine, cocaine base and marijuana.

Authorities began investigating the drug ring in 2002, finding it spread from the Texas-Mexico border to other states. Undercover officers and others cooperating with the investigation bought weapons and drugs from the conspirators, prosecutors said.

More than a dozen others from East Texas, Houston and California have been sentenced in the scheme with sentences ranging from two years to 19 1/2 years.
