John Cornyn has easily won the Republican primary for his seat in the U.S. Senate. Cornyn handily defeated consultant Larry Kilgore in Tuesday night's primary election to advance to the November general election.

The GOP heavyweight already has $7.6 million in the bank for the fall campaign, when he'll take on the winner of a four-way Democratic contest.

Cornyn was first elected to the Senate in 2002, after serving as Texas attorney general.
