Dolphins found dead on Texas coast

GALVESTON, TX Of the 12 dolphins found early yesterday, six were newborns, three were about a year old and three were adults. That's according to Kim Amendola, a communication specialist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration fisheries division.

Eight more dolphins washed up later in the afternoon. She did not have their ages.

Officials said that last year, about 70 dead dolphins washed up between Sabine Pass and Galveston in March. Amendola says that biologists couldn't find a cause of those deaths because the dolphins were so badly decomposed.

The bottlenose dolphins found on beaches in Galveston and Jefferson counties yesterday were all badly decomposed as well.
