Seniors struggle with housing program

HOUSTON The congresswoman stood outside the home of Gloria Jack in northeast Houston on Saturday. Jack's home was damaged by Tropical Storm Allison back in 2001. She claims she's been stuck in a backlog ever since. Lee says seniors have been living in deplorable conditions for too long.

Jackson Lee said, "This is only a small example of the tsunami that we have here in Houston regarding senior houses."

Jack's home must now be demolished. The mayor's office says it started processing Jack's case when it discovered the lien on her home had several names, making her ineligible for the program. While city officials told her how to resolve the ownership issue, they claim she did not file the paperwork on time.
