Houston lost a local business and philanthropic icon this afternoon. I.W. Marks passed away after a long battle with cancer. Marks was most recognized for the ads he did for his family run jewelry stores.

He opened his first jewelry store in Bellaire in 1978. The 73 year old Marks donated lots of his money and time supporting local arts organizations including the Houston grand Opera, Houston Symphony and Houston Ballet. Marks also worked closely with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and Crime Stoppers.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
