A fallen Harris County deputy constable was laid to rest Monday morning. Corporal Harry Thielepape died last week from wounds he suffered in a fierce battle with a robbery suspect.Services for the Corporal were held at the Catholic Charismatic Center in southeast Houston.

He was remembered for his smile, his passion for life and his love for law enforcement. Corporal Harry Thielepape started his career in law enforcement late in life.

"In the old days, you had to be very tall and Harry is 5'6" and I'm 5'7" and we couldn't join the police departments many years ago," said Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Victor Trevino. "He was a short guy but a big heart. We were just real proud of him and what he did for our department."

It was on January 26h when Thielepape got into a shootout with Jesus Reyna.

Reyna was handcuffed and in the back of the patrol car but somehow managed to get the corporal's gun. The corporal was shot multiple times but he was able to shoot and kill Reyna. Thielepape died from his wounds last week.

"We were all hoping and praying that Corporal Thielepape would pull from this -- of course unfortunately we found out later that he was not going to make it," said Deputy Joseph Guerra with Precinct 6.

Today, surrounded by friends and family and fellow law enforcement members, Thielepape's life was celebrated for his courage, his passion and the love of his family.

"He did his job and unfortunately, this time it cost him his life. But that is what it meant for him also. He put his life on the line. He was going to do his job," said Constable Trevino.

Thielepape leaves behind a son and two grandchildren.
