Top 7 SoCal restaurants owned by couples

(KABC) They are trendy spots serving up tasty treats created by husbands and wives.

They love each other and they love what they do. These couples have the magic touch when it comes to business and cuisine.

Hatfield's in Los Angeles is not only a partnership of Cal-French and New American fare.

"My husband's the chef," says Karen Hatfield. "And I'm the pastry chef and run the front of the house."

"And together the two of them have created some of the most interesting signature dishes in Los Angeles," says Citysearch L.A. Editor Tara de Lis. "For one, the hamachi croque madame with a quail egg on top, and for her the chocolate peanut butter truffle cake, which is delicious."

Beacon, an Asian café in Culver City, has Chef Kazuto manning the back.

"And his wife Vicki sort of does split duty, part-time in the kitchen helping out as a chef and then the other part of the time is general manager, front of the house," says de Lis.

"It's a difficult business, but when you have your spouse there, it's somebody to share the great times with, and then if you have a hard day, it's somebody to talk to," says Vicki Fan. "Plus, we see each other much more than if we both had separate jobs, I think."

Regulars have been eating at Da Pasquale in Beverly Hills since 1989.

"As one Citysearcher said, 'It's a husband-and-wife-owned restaurant, but the wife is very much in charge.' He makes the bread and the pizza. She makes everything else," says de Lis.

"Without me, the restaurant goes on. Without my wife, the restaurant goes nowhere," says Pasquale. "She's the success of the restaurant. She is."

Bashan has been making a nice first impression since opening last year.

"It's a cute little neighborhood joint in Montrose run by Nadav, he's the chef," says de Lis. "Romy is his wife. She greets you at the door. It's just very sweet, family run. He creates new American, market-fresh masterpieces each night."
