Astros sign two prospects

The Houston Astros on Thursday signed outfielder Nick Gorneault and right-handed pitcher Runelvys Hernandez to minor-league contracts. Both also get invitations to spring training.

Gorneault hit .261 with 19 home runs and 59 RBI in 128 games for Triple-A Salt Lake in 2007.

He made his major league debut with the Los Angeles Angels last season, going hit less in four at-bats with a walk in two games.

Hernandez was 1-7 with a 4.35 ERA in 17 starts for Triple-A Pawtucket, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Indianapolis last season. Hernandez was 25-33 with a 5.38 ERA in four seasons (78 games) for Kansas City from 2002-03 and 2005-06.
