It's a busy new year for firefighters. Two apartment complexes went up in flames within minutes of each other Tuesday afternoon. The first call was to a complex on Selinsky near Sesame in southeast Houston. Firefighters could already see the flames spreading to other units when they arrived and called a second alarm.

Another two alarm fire burned a complex on Kirkwood near Spring Grove on the southwest side. Windy conditions affected both fires.

"If you look at that wind, it's coming out of the north, northwest, blowing across the apartments," explained HFD Asst Chief Jack Williams. "So it's going to push that fire a little bit further when it has the opportunity."

There were no reports of injuries at either scene. Investigators are looking into the causes.
