HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A fight between two women ended in a deadly stabbing in southwest Houston overnight.

Police responded to a stabbing call at an apartment in the 8100 block of Creekbend Drive and Braes Forest Drive just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

At the scene, officers found a 22-year-woman dead with a stab wound to the chest. Another woman was detained.

According to investigators, the woman who was detained lives at the apartment complex, and the 22-year-old who was killed was visiting.

An early investigation indicated that the woman who was killed was intoxicated and was told by the tenant that she needed to leave.

The 22-year-old became enraged and assaulted the tenant, police said.

A male acquaintance of both women reportedly intervened and tried to stop the assault.

However, the 22-year-old broke away and assaulted the tenant a second time, police said.

That's when the tenant picked up a kitchen knife to defend herself and stabbed the woman in the chest, investigators said.

The case will be presented to a Harris County grand jury to determine what, if any, charges will be filed.
