HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- In separate parts of the Houston area, two police chases ended in crashes just hours apart on Saturday afternoon.

Two people were injured after chase suspects slammed into an ambulance, causing it to overturn, according to deputies.

The chase began on the Gulf Freeway just after 3 p.m. A Precinct 8 patrol deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle whose plates came back as stolen.

Authorities said the suspects failed to stop, continued onto Beltway 8 eastbound and exited at Fairmont, where they then ran a red light and slammed into an ambulance, causing it to overturn.

Two Hispanic males exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but were quickly apprehended.

A patient in the back of the ambulance was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A chase suspect was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Hours later, Pearland police said two people accused of a hit-and-run and retail theft refused to pull over for officers.

A short chase ensued, but the suspects lost control of their car and flipped over, sparking a small fire in the car's engine.

Officers rescued the suspects, who are now in the hospital.
