Tuesday, November 21, 2017
AUSTIN, Texas (KTRK) -- If you're fishing for something to do this winter, Texas ponds and lakes will soon be full of rainbow trout.

Texas Parks & Wildlife is releasing over 300,000 rainbow trout for the winter.

If you love fishing and live in Houston, we've got more good news: the state says it has a plan to get more fish into the hands of city dwellers.

To make the rainbow trout more accessile, TPWD is stocking 18 neighborhood fishing ponds, including several in the Houston area:

Mary Jo Peckham Park
5597 Gardenia Lane, in Katy

Community Park Lake
1700 Glenn Lakes Lane, in Missouri City

The stocking begins tomorrow and will continue every two weeks through the winter.

If you want to fish, the state says you will need a $5 Freshwater Fishing Stamp, included in all freshwater license packages. Click here to read more about fishing licenses.

Anglers under 17 years of age do not require a license and do not need to purchase a stamp.

You can find out more on the Texas Parks & Wildlife website.
