HISD giving prom dresses to underprivileged teens

Saturday, April 8, 2017
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- HISD is making prom special for hundreds of students who are either homeless or at-risk.

The district gave away free prom dresses, tuxedos, shoes and accessories to ensure all students can attend their senior prom.

The Prom Project featured more than 1,000 dresses and 1,500 men's blazers and pants.

Students also heard from a motivational speaker, a local comedian, and got to see a special performance by the Whidby Elementary School Dolls Twirling Team.

The HISD Homeless Education Office is a grant-funded program that serves 6,000 students throughout the district.
