Labor Day of Love event to clean up Sienna Plantation

MISSOURI CITY, Texas (KTRK) -- Sugar Creek Baptist Church is sponsoring a weekend-long effort to help those impacted by flooding in Sienna Plantation.

The Labor Day of Love event kicks off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, as volunteers work to help homeowners clean up damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.

Those interested in volunteering should meet at the church's Missouri City campus at 7555 Highway 6. The church will provide lunch and safety gear, but volunteers who are able to are asked to bring wheelbarrows and waders to assist cleanup efforts.

"We're going to be walking in, we're going to be wading in, we might be boating in. I don't know how we're getting in, but we're going to get into homes and be hands to help them," pastor Libin Abraham told ABC13.

Abraham said he expects hundreds of volunteers to show up.

Parts of the subdivision were left under feet of water after Hurricane Harvey dumped record amounts of rain across the region, spurring a mandatory evacuation order ahead of the impending flash flood. Days before, a small tornado from Harvey's outer bands damaged dozens of homes in the neighborhood.
