The student's condition is unknown, and HISD hasn't released details on what exactly happened.

Some parents have reported that they received automated voice messages alerting them that a student brought a gun on campus.

Students told ABC13 they expected to hear details from administrators, but there was no mention in school announcements about the gun incident.

One student, who asked that her identity not be revealed, said it's the lack of details that makes the situation more frightening.

"Instead of talking about what can happen to us, our safety they just talk about homecoming instead," she said. "I'm kind of scared coming to school almost every day knowing that this happened. Nobody has talked about it."

HISD did release the following statement about the shooting:
The HISD Police Department is investigating an isolated incident that occurred after school hours Tuesday at Westbury High School involving a student who was injured after a gun was discharged. The student received immediate medical attention and is recovering. The HISD Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation to gather the facts and will have extra patrols at the campus to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
