Multiple animal rescues in wine country have been forced to move because of the wildfires. Many are also clearing out current animals to make rooms for stranded dogs and cats coming in.
In mid-September, actress and Katy native Renee Zellweger was one of dozens of volunteers to help transport 70 cats and dogs from Houston-area shelters to California. The volunteer group orchestrated more than a half-dozen evacuation flights.
"I'm a Texan and I just wanted to find a place where I could contribute. It didn't feel right to just send a donation. That works and everything but I'm from here so it didn't feel right to just stay home and not be part of a team," Zellweger told ABC13 at the time.
