HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- An arrest was made Tuesday after SWAT officers responded to a west Harris County home where an armed man broke in and barricaded himself, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the call came in just after 6:30 a.m. about the man entering the home in the 3100 block of Rainmont Lane near Fry Road.

Gonzalez said no one was inside the home at the time, but the man was believed to be armed.

In a Tuesday afternoon press conference, Lt. Bryan Buccini with HSCO said they made contact with the suspect, trying to get him to come out.

"(The) suspect pointed a gun to his head and threatened to kill himself. At that time, our officers did their best job of trying to de-escalate the situation, backed out of the house, set up a perimeter around the location, and continued negotiations with the suspect," Buccini added.

When the suspect refused to put the weapon down or leave the home, Buccini said SWAT officers were called to continue negotiations.

"A short time later, our suspect decided to put the weapon down. He did, in fact, have a firearm," Buccini said. "He placed a weapon on a staircase and exited the residence to the front door."

According to law enforcement, the suspect was arrested without force and suffered no injuries.

He was taken into custody for burglary of habitation with an intent to commit a felony.

Buccini said the suspect knows the homeowners and added there have been previous domestic disturbances at the home.

The suspect has yet to be identified.
