SPCA returns 150 animals to raided Liberty Co. shelter

DAYTON, TX (KTRK) -- More than 150 animals were returned to a Dayton-area animal shelter on Thursday morning.

The Houston SPCA pulled up to the Puppy Dogs R Us around 10:30am with two big trucks and a tractor. Kerry McKeel with the organization said they were following a court order to return the animals, which were first seized last week.

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office said the animals were being neglected at the property.

"We're very disappointed. Deeply, deeply disappointed to have to bring the animals back here to Puppy Dogs R Us," said McKeel. "The case is closed because of the court's decision."

A judge yesterday dismissed the civil case against Puppy Dogs R Us because the warrant didn't list the property address. Allegations of abuse were not discussed.
